Save Your Patterns

Making a pattern first can save time and energy in the long run -- even for custom work. Let's take an example: a decorative molding repair to an arched window. You'd make a paper or cardboard pattern of the arched window. Would you save it? You should. You have invested time and energy into it and there is more than one arched window in the world. Use a digital camera to record set-ups and put a printed copy in file for future reference. You might even put together a binder of this information. Having a pattern with set-ups shown and detailed information already available will save time.
