Her-Saf Panel Routers - The first name in dadoing since 1960!
Her-Saf Panel Routers - the first name in dadoing for over 40 years!

Technology applied to produce a dependable, accurate and efficient machine.

The Real benefits of the Her-Saf Panel Routers

The real benefits of the Her-Saf Panel Routers are time and material savings. These machines were designed to give shops of all sizes a competitive edge and the versatility to compete while providing a dependable, accurate and safe method for putting grooves in boards. Essentially a simple straight forward method to reduce your labor while increasing your production capacity.

Most Her-Saf Panel Router owners tell us that their machine paid for itself in the first six to nine months. One man purchased the machine for a specific job; to build two built-in jewelry cases with thirty drawers a piece in varying sizes. When the job was done, he said the machine had paid for itself just in labor saved. This is a machine built to last, built to stay accurate, built to be the safest method to dado/groove. In fact, machines built in the early sixties are still in use today.
The machine is easy on the eyes and physic. Painted a welcoming shade of blue with white slates and a safety yellow carriage.

The Her-Saf Panel Routers needs only one operator and if using templets, no special knowledge is required. This machine is designed to be easy to learn and operate. It's also been said that the machine is only limited by one's imagination.

The Features that make a difference

Crown Shoe with pantographic action:

The Her-Saf Panel Routers have a crown shoe with pantographic action. This means that when making a dado/cut the crown shoe is riding just where the cut is being made following the contour of the workpiece. Thus insuring an even depth of cut, even if the workpiece is warped or of varying thicknesses. The pantographic action provides the floating or flexibility for the crown shoe, allowing it to move/float across the surface of the workpiece.

Templet System:

Standard on each machine is a templet system which can be used for custom or production applications. The templet system allows you to create custom jigs, for instance to handle small pieces like drawers parts. The templet system allows for use of a variety of templets; slip, angle, custom.

Solid Fence at convenient working height:

The solid fence is surfaced with high pressure laminate providing a slick consistent surface all the way thru the machine. Thus making it much easier to handle any size workpiece. The fence is set at a convenient working height to reduce worker fatigue. The ten foot long fence makes handling 8' pieces easier.

Secure easy movement:

The carriage assembly is secured to the vertical slides by brass gates and self-lubricating delrin bearings. This insures that the carriage has no side to side movement while in operation and that it slides smoothly up and down the vertical slides. This type of technology ensure long life and accurate dadoing/cutting. Each machine has vertical slides that are centerless ground steel tubing that is 1/4" wall for strength and durability. The vertical slides are matched so as to be absolutely parallel. The carriage assembly is counter balanced so that moving the carriage assembly is not a weight lifting project.

Visibility:

The open crown shoe allows you to see exactly where your cutting. You can follow pencil lines if needed. You can see a mistake before it happens.

It's the Carriage:

The cast aluminum carriage can be locked in place for horizontal grooves. The central carriage with the pantographic action can be locked out and dropped into the workpiece as desired. There are stops above and below the carriage assembly for use in blind dados and housed-in dados.

Depth of cut made easy:

The depth of cut is adjusted by using the dial gauge at the motor mount in the central carriage unit. There is no need to slide the router bit in and out of the router.s collet. All depth adjustment is made using the depth adjustment dial gauge on the central carriage.

Space saving:
The required space for the Her-Saf Panel Router is 3'x10' - a very small requirement. Plus it will nestle easily back to back with other vertical machines. The tri-pod leg assembly makes it space efficient and easy to maintain level/plum.

Machine arrives virtually ready to use. The pulley assembly on top of the machine is not installed so as to meet height requirements for shipping. Need only to install pulley assembly and router motor, and the machine is ready to use.

Strength & Alignment:

The frame is made of tubular steel welded for strength and durability. Between the solid fence and the frame design this machine can handle a full sheet of solid surface material with accuracy. They can handle materials up to 1-1/2" (automatic versions) and 2" (manual versions). The machines are designed to maintain alignment and plum. Each machine is fully aligned before shipment. And as we all know freight companies travel the smoothest of roads. Therefore we include with each machine the means to check the machine for alignment once it has arrived.

The niceties:

On the central carriage there is an eccentric nut whose main purpose in life is to keep the router from cutting into the slats when it comes off the workpiece. It also comes into play when using the hold-out lever. Then there is the counter balance which some see as merely a chuck of blue concrete, but in reality is an exact weight to provide the perfect counter balance to the carriage assembly. Meaning that the operator is lifting mere ounces instead of fifty some pounds.
