Endless Possibilities with Templets & Jigs

If you read "Using Templets to Get More Out of Your Panel Router", you already know that templets ensure accuracy when creating duplicate workpieces. What you may not realize is that templets can also be used on workpieces that might not otherwise seem possible at all on a Panel Router, such as angled or even undersized pieces.

The Her-Saf Panel Router makes straight line (horizontal or vertical) dadoes. What if you need to make diagonal grooves? Just create an angle templet to the required degree. Your workpiece is inserted into the machine at a slant so that the "vertical" dadoes are cut at the right angle. For undersized pieces, create a larger fixture templet that can be easily handled in the machine.

Another type of templet that some cabinetmakers find handy is the slip templet. If you need to make a cut only at the ends of your workpiece, creating a full length templet is unnecessary. Instead make a short slip templet. Insert the workpiece from the left for one cut and from the right for the other. Not only does this make for a smaller templet, but the same templet can then be used for varying lengths of material as long as the required distance from the end of the workpiece to the groove is the same.

With templets, the Her-Saf Panel Router is limited only by your imagination.
